Manchester United dealt huge blow as boss Jose Mourinho confirms Paul Pogba has suffered a 'long-term' injury

Paul Pogba has joined Manchester United’s ‘long-term’ injury list, according to Jose Mourinho, adding to fears that the France midfielder could be out until mid-November.

United have yet to make a decision over whether to send Pogba for surgery after the 24-year-old missed the last four games since limping out of the Champions League win over Basle at Old Trafford earlier this month.

But Mourinho bracketed his £89million record signing with cruciate ligament casualties Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Marcos Rojo among the players who are currently out of his thoughts.

‘He’s injured,’ said the United boss. ‘He cannot play tomorrow and it’s not an injury that I can have the hope I have with (Antonio) Valencia or (Phil) Jones. I have the hope to see them in training. Long-term injuries I don’t speak about them – Ibra, Pogba, Rojo, I don’t think about these players.’

Concerns are growing at United that Pogba will struggle to be fit for the trip to Chelsea on November 5 ahead of the next round of international fixtures.

That means Pogba may not play for United again until November 18 at the earliest when Newcastle are the visitors to Old Trafford, missing another eight games for his club.

Mourinho confirmed that Jones and Michael Carrick are definitely out of Saturday’s game at home to bottom-of-the-table Crystal Palace. It remains to be seen if Valencia, Anthony Martial or Marouane Fellaini are fit to play.

‘Tomorrow some will be out,’ added Mourinho. ‘From all the injuries we had, I hope that I can have some players available for tomorrow.

‘We have to train and make decisions after training but I hope some of the players who couldn’t play in Moscow, maybe not all of them, but some of them.’
