Arsenal will listen to Mesut Ozil offers in January as club move to avoid losing both him and Alexis Sanchez for free

  • Arsenal are prepared to allow midfielder Mesut Ozil to leave the club in January
  • Ozil's contract is set to expire next summer when he can move on a free transfer
  • Arsenal are keen to recoup some of the £42.5million they paid for Ozil in 2013
  • But Alexis Sanchez is almost certain to leave for nothing at end of the season

Arsenal are set to listen to offers for Mesut Ozil in January to avoid losing him for nothing.

The development opens the door for Inter Milan to swoop for the Germany international during the winter transfer window after club chief Erick Thohir admitted the Italians were 'definitely' interested in the playmaker.

Ozil will have just six months on his contract when the transfer window reopens and with no resolution over an extension in sight, the midfielder's future will be an issue.

The former Real Madrid man is currently on the sidelines with a minor knee injury.

But the Gunners have performed well without Ozil — winning four out of five games in the German's absence.

Ozil is expected to be fit again after the international break, but it remains to be seen whether Wenger hands the 28-year-old an instant return to the starting XI.

With Alexis Sanchez almost certain to leave the Emirates on a free transfer at the end of the season, the Gunners are likely to consider offers for Ozil as to limit the financial damage caused by the pair leaving for nothing ahead of next season.
