Harry Redknapp approached by Yeovil for advisory role following his sacking as Birmingham manager

  • League Two outfit Yeovil want Harry Redknapp on board in an advisory role

  • The 70-year-old has stepped into some obscure roles in recent years

Harry Redknapp has been courted by League Two outfit Yeovil to take an advisory role at the club just two weeks after his sacking as Birmingham manager.

The former West Ham and Tottenham boss was axed by the Championship club a few hours after their 3-1 defeat by Preston which had left the club marooned in the relegation zone.

Over the last two years, Redknapp has travelled the path less trodden. The 70-year-old became director of Wimborne Town before taking up an advisory role at Derby — as well as a two-match stint in charge of Jordan.

And following his dismissal from St Andrew's, Yeovil hope to take Redknapp on board in a similar post to the one at Derby.

Yeovil boss Darren Way has invited Redknapp to Huish Park following the veteran's comments that he is keen to help young managers in the game.

Way told the club's website: 'Harry has been in the game a long time and is someone I highly respect for all the experience he's gained and achievements he's accomplished.

'I'm still starting my journey in management and feel the opportunity to bring in someone like Harry to offer advice and pass on his knowledge is a no-brainer.

'There's no pressure or long-term commitment from either side, but I'm looking forward to having Harry at Huish Park and we welcome him to the club.'

Redknapp kept Birmingham up after succeeding Gianfranco Zola in April and oversaw a major overhaul of the playing squad during the transfer window.

But was shown the exit door after the Blues had won just one league game and crashed out of the Carabao Cup.
