Chelsea will step up their interest in Juventus defender Alex Sandro in a bid to keep Antonio Conte happy at Stamford Bridge.

Blues boss Conte is a huge fan of the left back and has wanted to sign him ever since leaving Italy in the summer of 2016.

Sportsmail understands that after failing to acquire the Brazil international last time around, Chelsea will dip back into the market with a £60million bid.

Juventus are far less willing to sell in January, which may leave Chelsea no other option than to wait until next summer.

Conte has admitted his love for Italy on a number of occasions, and amid rumours of him quitting England to return home, Chelsea are keen to keep him sweet.

In a recent radio interview, the Chelsea manager said: 'I miss Italy, that's beyond doubt. So, once I have had some important and life-changing experiences, I will be back.'

Conte has never worked with Sandro - the player joined Juve a year after he left - but during his time with the Italy national team he will have seen a lot of him in Serie A.

Sandro has played seven times this season, including in Serie A and the Champions League

Last summer, Chelsea plumped for Marcos Alonso when their pursuit of Sandro ended

Stamford Bridge chiefs believe giving Conte one of the players he admires most will encourage him to stay for longer in the capital.

The Blues won the Premier League title this season, but are set to have their work cut out this time around with Manchester City and Manchester United flying.

Chelsea have won four of their opening seven league matches, losing twice - against Burnley on the opening day and City last weekend.

There are serious ambitions of European success too, and a last-gasp winner against Atletico Madrid in the last round of fixtures leaves them with two wins from two.
