Paris Saint-Germain star Neymar has instructed their chiefs to sign Liverpool forward Philippe Coutinho.

Neymar is keen to be joined in Paris by his Brazilian team-mate and has urged his new employers to get a deal done ahead of his former club Barcelona.

According to Spanish outlet Sport, the Ligue 1 giants will join the race and compete with La Liga giants Barca for his signature.

Sportsmail revealed last week Barca are themselves plotting a fresh £97million swoop for the 25-year-old in January after they failed to secure a deal during the summer window.

Coutinho had wanted to ditch Liverpool for the Catalan giants and handed in a transfer request in an attempt to force a move to the Nou Camp.

But the Reds held firm, knocking back at least three bids to hold on to their star man, and their stance has not changed.

However, with Barca and PSG set to test the waters in January the Premier League side could be set for another tempestuous window with PSG's club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi preparing a £135m bid.

Jurgen Klopp had put a fractious summer behind him and settled the quarrel with Coutinho which saw him reclaim his first-team spot.

He has recently showed what an important player he is to Liverpool with three goals in his last three and despite having him under contract until 2022, they may be required to dig their heels deep once more to retain his services.
