  • Medical staff to examine the extent of Marouane Fellaini's knee injury
  • The midfielder damaged ligaments in Belgium's World Cup qualifier with Bosnia
  • Jose Mourinho is worried Romelu Lukaku will play in Belgium's game with Cyprus
  • Phil Jones also reported back after missing England's games with a knock

Marouane Fellaini has reported back to Manchester United's Carrington training complex to receive treatment on the knee injury suffered on international duty with Belgium.

Despite knee ligament damage in Belgium's 4-3 World Cup qualifying win over Bosnia, the 29-year-old midfielder was able to drive in to training in his Mercedes on Tuesday morning.

Now he has returned, United's medical staff will ascertain the extent of the damage and how long he will be sidelined.

With £89million man Paul Pogba also injured, Jose Mourinho's side will be depleted in central midfield for Saturday's Premier League showdown at Liverpool.

Fellaini has been in excellent form for United in the early part of the season and scored twice in their last outing, a 4-0 home win over Crystal Palace.

Defender Phil Jones, who pulled out of England's World Cup qualifiers against Slovenia and Lithuania with a knock, was also pictured arriving at the Aon Training Complex in his silver Bentley.

The 25-year-old has formed a strong defensive partnership with Eric Bailly this season and Mourinho will be anxious that he makes the weekend trip to Anfield.

Jones reported for England duty last week but was then sent home as a precaution.

Meanwhile, Mourinho is concerned that striker Romelu Lukaku, who has scored 15 goals this season for club and country, will play in Belgium's qualifier against Cyprus on Tuesday night.

Belgium qualified for the World Cup finals in Russia ahead of this latest pair of qualifying games and Lukaku missed the weekend win over Bosnia with an ankle injury.

However, Belgium coach Roberto Martinez confirmed Lukaku is '100 per cent fit and available' for the Cyprus game after returning to training.

Martinez said: 'Romelu is fit and available, he's training with us tonight,' said Martinez. 'And, no, I have not received a call from Mourinho. The reason he wasn't in the squad in the previous game was because he wasn't 100 per cent.

'Now he is 100 per cent but we need to take into consideration that he has been with the group for only one session. He's been working on an individual basis, really good work, but we need to keep that in mind.'

The injury concerns come ahead of a demanding set of fixtures for United, who trail rivals Manchester City on goal difference at the top of the Premier League table.

After the Liverpool match, they travel to Portugal to play Benfica in their third Champions League group match and then are away at Huddersfield Town the following Saturday.

A visit to Swansea City in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup follows and the month is rounded off with a home match against Tottenham and the home return with Benfica.

United are also without another midfielder in the form of Michael Carrick, although he too reported for training on Tuesday morning.

Club legend Andrew Cole was also at the training ground on Tuesday, working out in the gym as he builds his strength following the kidney transplant he had earlier this year.
