Arsenal defender Calum Chambers has put pen to paper on a two-year contract extension keeping him at the club until 2021. 

'Everyone at Arsenal is looking forward to Calum’s continued contribution to the club,' the north London outfit wrote on their official website.

The 22-year-old, who spent last season on loan with Middlesbrough, has made 60 appearances since joining from Southampton in the summer of 2014.

But despite an encouraging start, the youngster has failed to nail down a consistent starting role in his three years at the club.


However, manager Arsene Wenger clearly values the Englishman, having allowed fellow defensive options Kieran Gibbs and Gabriel Paulista to leave during the transfer window.

The Frenchman chose to keep hold of Chambers, who was the subject of interest from Leicester.

The player, who has been capped three times for England, is yet to be named in a Premier League squad this term with his only minutes of first team action coming in the League Cup victory over Doncaster.

His last outing for Arsenal in the top flight came in the opening day of last season, a 4-3 defeat to Liverpool.
