Premier League continue discussions over Christmas Eve football with 12.30pm kick-off mooted for Arsenal v Liverpool despite fan objections

  • Premier League say there would be no fixtures played at 4pm on December 24
  • An earlier kick off time for a game on Christmas Eve could yet be agreed
  • Arsenal v Liverpool is the game most likely to be scheduled for the Sunday

Discussions are ongoing over plans to play Arsenal’s home clash against Liverpool on Christmas Eve, with the time slot of 12.30pm emerging as a likely compromise.

The Premier League have confirmed there would be no fixtures played at 4pm on December 24 following a backlash from fans - but an earlier kick off time could yet be agreed.

Arsenal feared they would not be granted a safety certificate for a 4pm kick-off due to a shortage of staff - including stewards - willing to work at that time.

No decision will be taken until next week but Sky Sports may decide to show one game at an earlier time slot.

Manchester United’s fixture against Leicester City has also been mooted as a potential Christmas Eve fixture as has Newcastle United's trip to West Ham.

Christmas Eve falls on a Sunday this year, when Sky usually broadcast one of their four live Premier League games a week.
