Manchester City scouts watched Espanyol left-back Aaron Martin on Friday against Levante.
The 20-year-old was an option for City in the summer as negotiations over the purchase of Benjamin Mendy from Monaco dragged on.
Now with Mendy expected to miss the majority of the season through injury, City are monitoring Martin ahead of a potential January bid.

Mendy, a £52million summer capture from Monaco, was part of a huge spending spree Pep Guardiola conducted on his back line.
The young Frenchman made an impressive start to life at the Etihad, but soon saw his progressed curtailed by knee ligament damage.

Surgery was deemed the only option for the flying full-back, with City yet to give any official estimate on when he may be able to return to first team action.
City are now expected to intensify their interest in Martin, however, they may face competition from Manchester United for the Spain U21 international as the Old Trafford club have also watched in recent games.
