Real Madrid are also believed to be interested in signing Cavani in January, although that could depend on the goalscoring form of Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema.

Cavani is said to have considered linking up with Jose Mourinho at Manchester United, but currently sees a move to the Etihad as his most attractive option.

However, with Gabriel Jesus and Sergio Aguero in scintillating form so far this season, it remains to be seen whether Guardiola will target another striker during the January transfer window.
