Sir Alex Ferguson has admitted he thought the Class of '92 were 'off their heads' when he first heard of their plan to take over Salford City and attempt to guide them to the Football League.
The legendary Manchester United boss was at Salford's Moor Lane ground on Thursday to officially unveil their renovated ground, with the club now two promotions away from League football.
Ferguson took the microphone to praise the job his former players have done at the non-league club, but also admitted he was surprised to hear of Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, Nicky Butt, Gary and Phil Neville's plans.

Paul Scholes was also present as their former manager opened the new 5,000-capacity build
'I'm not surprised,' Ferguson said, as he addressed the crowd.
'What you've done is you've given something back into the area that gave you the platform for your life.
'And a lot of people, maybe including myself, thought you were off your head, but nonetheless, putting something back in is a measure of the character you've got and right through your lives.

'Whatever you've achieved, whatever you've tried to achieve has always been done with purpose, energy and belief in what you're doing.'
Salford currently sit second in the National League North table, two points behind leaders Harrogate Town, and will no be playing in a 5,000-capacity stadium with four completely covered sides and the lengths of the pitch both fully seated.
The club are already a full-time outfit but the target is a place in the Football League by the 2020/2021 season.
