Manchester United fly to Swansea to cut journey time from five hours to 45 minutes as they aim to bounce back from shock Huddersfield defeat

  • Manchester United have taken a private plane to Swansea for League Cup match
  • Nemanja Matic and Romelu Lukaku are among travelling party for Swansea clash
  • Jose Mourinho lost his cool after seeing his side go down 2-1 at Huddersfield

Romelu Lukaku, Nemanja Matic and Anthony Martial were among Manchester United's travelling party to Swansea as they flew to Wales on the club's private plane.

The League Cup holders made the 45-minute flight rather than travel on their team coach which would have taken over four hours.

Jose Mourinho's men left Manchester Airport at around 9:30am as they made the short trip to the Welsh south coast.

United's stars will be hoping to bounce back from their 2-1 defeat by Huddersfield when they face Swansea in the last 16 of the Carabao Cup.

Mourinho, who was also pictured boarding the club's private plane, is said to have given his players a rollicking after they failed to perform at Huddersfield.

The Premier League new boys raced into a two-goal lead after mistakes by Juan Mata and Victor Lindelof before Marcus Rashford pulled one back in the second half.

Mourinho lost his temper with his stars for the first time during his 16-month tenure as Manchester United manager.

The Portuguese tactician was so incensed by the performance that he he flung his coat to the dressing-room floor in fury.

Sportsmail understands Mourinho launched into a number of his defenders following the defeat, although Lindelof perhaps surprisingly escaped the manager’s fury.

The Swede is expected to start at the heart of Manchester United's defence on Tuesday night with Eric Bailly still out through injury.

Luke Shaw made the trip and could make only his second appearance of the season.

Mourinho said after the loss: 'I don't even remember a friendly match where our attitude was so poor.

'When I lose matches, I like to lose because the opponent was better and had more quality. But when you lose because of attitude, that is really bad.

'I heard Ander Herrera in his flash [television] interview saying the attitude and desire was poor. Oh my God, when a player says that, or a player feels that, I think they should all go to the press conference and explain why – because I cannot explain that. It concerns me because if it happened today why can't it happen tomorrow?'

After facing Swansea, United's attention will turn back to the Premier League with Tottenham visiting Old Trafford on Saturday.
