Luke Shaw has revealed he wants to play under Mauricio Pochettino again after previously playing under the Argentine at Southampton.

The 22-year-old full back has been linked with a reunion with Pochettino at Tottenham and the England international has opened the door to such a move.

Shaw, writing in Guillem Balague's Brave New World: Inside Pochettino's Spurs, also revealed Pochettino used to call him 'son' during their one-year spell together on the south coast.

'He used to call me his son,' writes Shaw in the book's epilogue. 'That's how good our relationship was. I've had lots of ups and downs, but when I was with Pochettino it was only ever up, up, up.

'He made me feel that I was the best. He'd show me clips of my games and say, "You could do this better". Not in a horrible way. Not I could have done better, but I should have done better, because he knows I can be better.

'I think with Southampton he achieved the impossible. We were one of the best footballing teams in the league… I do hope that I can play for him again one day. And I think he really wants me to play under him again.'

Shaw has been in and out of Manchester United's team since joining the club in a £30million deal back in June 2014.

Former United boss Louis van Gaal hit out at his fitness within a month of Shaw moving to Old Trafford.

Shaw was in his best United form when he broke his leg in September 2015 and he has failed to hold down a starting spot ever since.

Jose Mourinho has also criticised his form and fitness since taking over the reins from Van Gaal and he looks to be heading towards the exit door.

Shaw, who came on for the last three minutes of United's midweek win over Swansea in the Carabao Cup, could be involved in a swap deal which would see Danny Rose go the other way.

Rose said in August that he wanted to move to a 'northern team' to be closer to his mum.

The 27-year-old started his career at Leeds before joining Tottenham in 2007.
