However, it was the involvement of Hudson-Odoi and McEachran that caught the eye - with the pair both playing over an hour of the Group C clash.

Having arrived back from India on Monday, after beating Spain 5-2 in the U17 World Cup final on Saturday, Chelsea manager Joe Edwards recalled his midfield duo to the starting line-up.

Hudson-Odoi's dead-ball delivery proved a source of concern for Roma's defence and it was through this route that Chelsea broke the deadlock.

Sterling eventually profited from close range on 16 minutes after the hosts failed to clear their lines.

Taylor-Crossdale made it 2-0 just five minutes later when he raced clear to score.

Hudson-Odoi could've extended the lead on two occasions before he was replaced by Luke McCormick on 69 minutes.

McEachran, who was excellent midfield, was withdrawn on 64 minutes for Billy Gilmour.
