Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is 'dynamite', insists Jurgen Klopp but Liverpool boss reaffirms need for patience with new boy: 'He has the highest quality in everything he does'

  • Jurgen Klopp is delighted with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain's recent efforts
  • However, the German has called for patience before playing him regularly
  • Oxlade-Chamberlain has only made one start since his move from Arsenal

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is delighted with the progress shown by Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain but insists patience is still required before handing him a regular starting role.

The midfielder has been limited to a string of cameo appearances from the substitutes bench during his time on Merseyside so far, with his only start coming in the League Cup defeat by Leicester in September.

Oxlade-Chamberlain could feature in the starting line-up in his team's Champions League clash against Maribor as the Reds are without a number of key personnel including Sadio Mane and Adam Lallana, while Philippe Coutinho remains a doubt.

The 24-year-old has impressed Klopp with his performances since joining from Arsenal for £35million this summer but the German insists patience is required while he remains in the early stages of his Anfield career.

'I do want to specifically mention Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain,' he told the club's official website.

'He has shown his class each and every time he has had the opportunity on the pitch and the weekend was another example of this.

'He is like dynamite when he comes on. Aggressive in the most positive way. Front foot always. Looking to attack and create. These performances come because of how good his attitude is in training at Melwood.

'He has the highest quality in everything he does; sometimes I think he is the last to realise this.

'I am sure he is greedy for more starting selections and of course that opportunity will come.

'He is very much in the infancy of his Liverpool life, but the "world" in 2017 doesn't always allow for patience.

'He is doing everything right in this moment and because of this I know he will be a big success for us.'

Liverpool are currently top of Group E on goal difference with five points from their first three fixtures.

After drawing with both Sevilla and Spartak Moscow in their first two games, Klopp's team blew away Maribor 7-0 in their own back yard last month.

Oxlade-Chamberlain opened his account for his new club on the night with Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah both scoring twice and Coutinho and Trent Alexander-Arnold completing the rout.
