Jose Mourinho will be 'desperate' to overturn his former club Chelsea when Manchester United visit Stamford Bridge on Sunday, believes Bryan Robson.

United make the trip to the English capital after beating fellow London rivals Tottenham 1-0 in the Premier League last weekend.

And Mourinho, who steered the Blues to seven trophies during two stints at the club, will return to his former haunt looking to continue United's impressive start to the campaign.

Mourinho steered the Blues to seven major trophies during two managerial stints at the club

Mourinho has played down his return to Chelsea, claiming 'it isn't a big thing' and that his spell in charge there will soon become irrelevant.

But Robson, who appeared 461 times for United and won six major trophies at the club, believes the tie has a little something extra in it for the Portuguese.

'I’m sure Jose will say it doesn’t make any difference at all going back to a former club, but at the end of the day it is only three points, same as against anybody else,' he told Betsafe.

'But when you’ve been at a club for a time like he has been at Chelsea and achieved what he’s achieved, he’ll be desperate to beat them.

Former Old Trafford great Robson believes the clash will have a little extra in it for Mourinho

'And the players will be as well, the players know how important it is – Manchester City went down there and won so United have got to try and get a similar result.'

Both sides are hoping to keep the pressure on City, who are the early pace-setters in the Premier League this season, sitting five points ahead of second-placed United with only 10 games played.

Antonio Conte's side, however, lie four points behind United and will hope to drag them back into the pack this weekend.
