  • The La Liga side are looking to end a poor run of only one win in eight matches

A rotten run of only one win in eight matches has seen Diego Simeone's Atletico Madrid stutter both at home and in Europe.

The Spanish outfit are eight points off La Liga leaders Barcelona and set to exit at the Champions League group stages for the first time since 2009.

But try telling Antoine Griezmann and Diego Costa, who still appeared in good spirits as Atletico trained ahead of their La Liga clash with Deportivo La Coruna on Sunday.

Costa and Griezmann could combine to form a deadly forward line when the Spain striker is eligible to make his competitive debut in the new year.

The Spain forward cannot play for his new team until January 1 due to Madrid's existing transfer ban, but his lack of action does not appear to be getting him down.

He and Griezmann could be seen enjoying a joke as Simeone's side were put through their paces at the club's training base.

Costa will command a £58million fee when he makes the permanent switch in the summer, having initially joined on loan from Chelsea until the end of the season.

But the striker was powerless as Atletico's poor run continued with a disappointing 1-1 Champions League draw with minnows Qarabag.

The result means they are likely to end up in the Europa League, the continent's second-tier competition that captain Gabi this week described as a 'a piece of s***'.
