Arsenal and Everton among clubs considering bids for Middlesbrough's teenage winger Marcus Tavernier

Marcus Tavernier’s emergence for Middlesbrough and England has caught the attention of a number of Premier League clubs including Everton and Arsenal.

The 18-year-old won Under-19 international caps in games against Faroe Islands, Iceland, and Bulgaria during the break and impressed watching scouts.

Tavernier, a left-winger, has broken in Garry Monk’s side in recent weeks and scored the winner against Sunderland at the start of November. His other two Championship appearances were also Boro victories.

He scored in the League Cup tie at Bournemouth and despite only making six first-team games is interesting clubs on the look out for new English talent. His current contract runs out next summer.

Everton, who have signed John Stones, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, and Ademola Lookman in recent seasons, are closely monitoring Tavernier’s development and may make a bid in January.

Arsenal have also sent scouts to watch, while Bournemouth and Aston Villa are known admirers too. Boro rate the young player highly and are expected to trigger the year-option on his deal soon
