Wayne Rooney has given fans a glimpse into the earliest stages of his now legendary footballing career.

The Everton forward took to Instagram on Thursday evening to share a photo from his days playing for East Villa as a 11-year-old.

The Englishman can be seen looking rather uncomfortable as he poses alongside his team-mates for a group photo in 1996.

'Just been sent this photo from one of my junior sides East Villa,' Rooney wrote alongside the image. 'I still remember this being taken #tbt'.

Established in 1959, East Villa is one of Liverpool's leading amateur football clubs.

Rooney was born in Liverpool in 1985, where he grew up supporting Everton, the club he recently returned to after 13 years at Manchester United.

Whilst the 32-year-old has made a solid start in his second spell at the club, contributing five goals and one assist in 18 appearances, it has been a difficult beginning to the season in terms of results.

The Toffees had been predicted to make a challenge for the top four after a big summer of spending but find themselves 15th in the Premier League with just three wins from 11 games.

Roy Hodgson says his Palace side will need to be able to keep Wayne Rooney under controlĀ
