Tony Pulis admits defeats in his next two games could get him the sack at West Brom... and he faces high-flyers Chelsea and Tottenham!

  • West Brom face Chelsea at home on Saturday and then Tottenham a week later
  • Guochuan Lai, the club's owner, will fly in for The Blues' visit this weekend
  • Tony Pulis has won just twice in a run of 20 Premier League games
  • The Baggies are one point above the relegation zone as they sit 16th in the table

Tony Pulis accepts that defeats against Chelsea and Tottenham could cost him his job as West Bromwich manager, but insists his record stands up to scrutiny.

The Welshman is fighting to stay at the club amid a run of two wins from 20 Premier League games, but he issued a warning to supporters demanding the sack by questioning whether any replacement could better his CV.

West Brom's hierarchy have so far stayed patient but owner Guochuan Lai is flying in for the visit of Chelsea and will gauge the atmosphere at the Hawthorns.

A poor performance and more unrest in the stands might see the Chinese businessman bring an end to Pulis's near three-year reign.

Asked whether a dismissal in the next fortnight would be unfair considering West Brom's 10th-place position last term, Pulis said: 'No, not at all.'

But he added: 'If the club decide what they decide, it's just life. If you don't get results you're under pressure.'

Pulis did however steadfastly defend his achievements. 'If I left tomorrow I'd put my record on the table in front of anybody and see what they think,' he said.

'Yes we're on a bad run and everything is determined by the next game – but no one ever looks back and sees there were 11 players bought the summer before I came and not one made a profit.

'Last year was only the third time this club has finished 10th in the Premier League. It's only the second time since 1967 this club has finished the top Midlands club. The record goes on and on and on. I understand the more you give the more people want.

'People say the football's been boring but there are four or five teams who have scored fewer goals than us. One of those is my hometown club Bournemouth and everyone tells me what great football they play.'

Pulis has been left frustrated at Roberto Martinez for playing Nacer Chadli in friendlies against Mexico and Japan.

The forward, who was judged not 100 per cent fit by Pulis, has torn a hip muscle and may not feature until 2018.

'We're very, very disappointed Chadli has come back after playing two games for Belgium and has ended up getting an injury in training,' said Pulis.
