Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola warns unbeaten stars: 'We cannot afford to be arrogant'

  • Manchester City can stretch their Premier League record run of wins to 16
  • They travel to Leicester on Saturday, a team who humiliated City 4-2 last season
  • Manager Pep Guardiola says his side need to keep striving to improve
  • 'The moment they don't believe they can be better... that's the moment we crash'

Pep Guardiola is focusing on individual mistakes in training to stop arrogance derailing Manchester City.

The City manager is mindful that the record-breaking 15-match run of wins and an eight-point lead at the Premier League's summit could see concentration levels plummet.

And he has continued to come down hard on his stars before travelling to Leicester City, the scene of an embarrassing 4-2 capitulation last season.

'The moment they don't believe they can be better then that's the moment we crash, to fall down,' Guardiola said.

'It will be a big mistake if they think they have (already cracked it). They will do a big mistake when they think we've done enough until now.

'When we analyse the results, there is nothing to say. But when you see the games - picking out the mistakes - and we have 10 mistakes the same then there is a reason to work for the future.'

Guardiola is without Nicolas Otamendi, the Argentine serving a one-match suspension, and it is understood Eliaquim Mangala is favourite to deputise.

Vincent Kompany, out with a calf problem since August, trained this week but remains a doubt.

Otamendi's partnership with John Stones has been a key reason behind City's scintillating start to this term and Guardiola believes the latter has grown in stature after recently becoming a father.

'He is more mature,' Guardiola added. 'Defensively all the team have helped a lot but he joined a good partnership with Nico.

'Every game last season he made one or two mistakes and this season that is more irregular. He has this amazing quality to understand the game, to be calm, to read the next pass.'
