Jermaine Jenas claims Tottenham star Danny Rose was 'very disappointed' with north London derby snub as Mauricio Pochettinho praises his display against Borussia Dortmund

Danny Rose was 'very disappointed' to have been left out of Tottenham's match day squad for their north London derby tie against Arsenal, claims television pundit and former star Jermaine Jenas.

The England international is continuing his road back to full fitness following a long spell out with a knee injury, but was a surprise omission from Mauricio Pochettino's squad on Saturday.

Tottenham lost that game 2-0 and Rose was reinstated at left back in Tuesday's Champions League victory over Borussia Dortmund, in which he completed 90 minutes for the first time since January.

Speaking on BT Sport, Jenas said: 'I spoke to Danny and I know he was very disappointed not to be involved in the squad on Saturday. He thought he was fit, but that’s just natural.

'At the same time, it’s the manager’s decision and you look at the performance he put in tonight, it looks like Pochettino was right.

'He’s been out for a long period of time and the fact that it was the north London derby is what highlighted the whole situation.'

Although Rose looked some distance short of his best form, Pochettino was quick to praise his playing in the post-match interview.

However, he also stood by his decision to leave him out of the north London derby and warned that more squad rotation would be required in the hectic schedule to come.

Pochettino said: 'Danny Rose was very good. I’m very happy for him because today he showed what we expect from him.

'The decision from Saturday was very good because it helped him to improve in his fitness.

'It is a thing we are going to do with different players because we have a lot of games and it is impossible to cope playing with the same starting XI. They are not machines.'
