Manchester United stalwart Ashley Young ribs Premier League following Watford double after his strike against Brighton was awarded an own goal: 'You're not taking those away from me'

Ashley Young goals have been few and far between since he started to ply his trade at left back.

But in the last week the England international has hit a rich vein of goalscoring form.

Tuesday night's double against Watford came after he netted in the 1-0 against Brighton on the weekend — only for the dubious goals panel to strip it away from him.

His first came when he drilled a half-volley into the bottom corner of Hereulho Gomes' net

The 31-year-old's second, six minutes later, was a superbly curled free-kick from 25 yards out

His two on Tuesday are his only goals so far this term. But he was quick to aim a tongue-in-cheek jibe at the Premier League following the decision to award his strike against Brighton as an own goal to Seagulls defender Lewis Dunk.

His left-footed effort, on the edge of the box, hit the Albion defender before it looped over Mat Ryan in the game's only goal.

'That was a tough one today, big 3 points in the end,' he said on Instagram after the Brighton victory. 'Come on @premierleague... my shot was going on target, I’ve waited long enough for a goal.'

But after last night's heroics in the 4-2 win at Watford, the 32-year-old jokingly told the panel that both his strikes were legitimate and they would not be stripped from him.

'Good 3 points on the road. Enjoyed being back at Watford much more than last year! Don’t even think about it, @premierleague, you’re not taking those goals away from me.'

The two results have given not only Young, but United a huge boost.
