Bournemouth 1-1 Southampton, RESULT: Charlie Austin nets after Ryan Fraser opened scoring on south coast

Nathan Ake's header over the bar from a corner is the last course of action in the match.

90+2min: Final chance for Bournemouth as they win a corner. Benik Afobe is on for Fraser in their final change.

90min: Poor. Oriol Romeu sees the headlines as he looks to place a first time effort into the top corner from 30 yards, but his technique lets him down as it sails well wide of the goal.

There will be three minutes added on, but despite both sides attacking this looks to be heading for a draw... even more so when Bertrand fails to take a throw in properly.

88min: Wesley Hoedt cost his side the opening goal but he prevents Bournemouth snatching a late winner as following a Ryan Fraser cut-back he does very well to block a shot.

85min: And it's an attacking one from Mauricio Pellegrino who throws on striker Manolo Gabbiadini for Steven Davis.

84min: Hard to call a winner in this (we probably won't get one now) but it's pretty much been end-to-end since Lemina's introduction as Southampton prepare a final change.

81min: Chance for Southampton and Austin must do better here as he heads off target following a near post Bertrand cross.

79min: A hit and hope from Redmond, but his 20-yard shot flies wide without really concerning Begovic.

77min: It's not been a good few minutes for Lemina since coming on. After being turned easily by King, he has now been booked for a professional foul.

76min: Shoots of recovery from Bournemouth. King collects the ball with his back to goal inside the box, before doing well to turn Lemina and seeing his shot palmed away by Forster, with Wilson unable to get near the potential rebound.

74min: Southampton make their second change to try and turn the screw on Bournemouth as record signing Mario Lemina adds fresh legs in place of Dusan Tadic.

72min: Eddie Howe blows out his cheeks on the touchline as he continues to watch Southampton dominate this second period now. Those changes haven't really helped so far as we close to within the final 15 minutes.

69min: It's a double charge from Bournemouth with Stanislas and a close to anonymous Jermain Defoe departing in favour of Callum Wilson and Jordon Ibe.

67min: Southampton are all of a sudden well on top in this clash. Eddie Howe has seen enough as he sends his subs out to warm up.

64min: The away fans are in full voice now. The Southampton fans are loud and clear with a rendition of 'when the Saints go marching in' as pockets of Bournemouth supporters jeer their rivals.

On the pitch the Saints should be 2-1 up, with Ryan Bertrand getting into a superb position to cross near the byline, only for his ball across goal to be placed too far in front of Austin who can hardly believe the poor pass from his team-mate as it zips wide. Admittedly it's not often you see Bertrand waste the ball like that.

61min: And that's much better from the Saints! The ball is spread out wide for Nathan Redmond whose low cutback finds an unmarked Charlie Austin who sweeps home.

60min: A little better from the Saints as increased pressure wins a corner but after the set-piece is cleared, Jeremy Pied poorly fires way off target from 30 yards.

57min: Southampton haven't shown much since the break as Bournemouth continue to look the more likely to score.

Stanislas's low shot from the edge of the box takes a minor deflection but it still gives Forster an easy save to make at his near post.

54min: Beautiful. Josh King surrounded by Oriol Romeu and Boufal has nowhere to go. So he drags the ball back before flicking the ball with his heel past the Southampton winger then gaining a free-kick moments later.

51min: So nearly 2-0! Bournemouth work the ball to the corner of the six-yard box and from there Josh King fires across goal only for his shot to creep narrowly wide, with Junior Stanislas also just missing out with a touch on the slide at the far post.

48min: Good start to the second half for the Saints. The ball is spread out wide to Boufal who after charging into the box sees his low shot across goal well stopped by Asmir Begovic.

And as they restart, they make a change at the break in a bid to turn this game around as Nathan Redmond replaces James Ward-Prowse.

Both strikers have struggled to really get into the game, although both have had one effort on goal that has been well stopped by the respective opposition's keepers.

Even with Bournemouth winning Eddie Howe will want his team to feed Defoe more in the second half, with Austin having also struggled for regular service.

After a cagey 20 minutes, the game eventually came to life with both keepers having to make top saves before Fraser's opening opening goal.

Both teams could have had a penalty too, although Bournemouth's was much more of a convincing claim through Smith.

Southampton wanted one for handball after Francis blocked a Tadic shot - but it would have been very harsh.

45min: A chance to respond for Southampton but it is poorly wasted. Bertrand is in acres of space on the left flank, but his cut-back into the box is terribly blasted way over the bar by Boufal. One minute to be added.

42min: Defences had been on top in this game, until now. Josh King does well to rob Wesley Hoedt of the ball before squaring for Andrew Surman who then lays the ball off for Ryan Fraser to slot his first league goal of the season past Forster.

39min: Unlucky! Charlie Daniels goes within a whisker of opening the scoring as with the outside of his left boot he lets fly from 30 yards with an effort that curls late, viciously and just wide of the top corner across goal.

37min: Adam Smith is back in the thick of the action, although this time his contribution is less memorable as he slices badly wide off target from 25 yards,

34min: It nearly becomes a double sucker punch for Bournemouth as Southampton then have their best chance of the game. Asmir Begovic saves magnificently from Austin after a floated Ward-Prowse cross before Simon Francis denies Dusan Tadic on the follow up.

32min: Controversial. Adam Smith wants a penalty after being caught late in the box by Sofiane Boufal, but instead he is booked for diving.

The Bournemouth players are understandably enraged by the decision none more so than Defoe who is booked for dissent. Southampton have got away with one there.

30min: Junior Stanislas's effort deflects off the wall though before Southampton clear their lines.

29min: Pied tries his luck from 30 yards - which flashes off target - but now Bournemouth have a free-kick 30 yards out after Josh King was hauled down on the counter attack.

26min: The stalemate remains. Not too much between the teams so far, although Bournemouth have by far had the best chance with that Defoe effort well saved by Forster.

23min: No need for Forster this time, but Bournemouth's threat has increased in the last five minutes as Lewis Cook drills over the bar from 25 yards.

20min: What a save. Amazing reactions from Fraser Forster! Adam Smith's low drive is heavily deflected by Jermain Defoe on target from eight yards out, only for the Saints keeper to lift his left arm to somehow tip it over the bar.

Seconds later he is again on hand to deny a Nathan Ake diving header.

18min: Southampton have established control of this game but in truth apart from Van Dijk's header not an awful lot has happened.

15min: Pied is turning into a bit of nuisance. Another cross is cleared by Ake but the full-back picks up the clearance before floating another ball towards the back post where Dusan Tadic loops a header over the bar.

12min: In fact Pied has emerged as an attacking threat for the Saints as he gallops down the right before his cross is put behind for a corner by Ake.

James Ward-Prowse delivers into the centre and although it's met by a towering Virgil van Dijk header, the defender can only glance wide across goal. That was a decent chance.

9min: A solid spell of possession from Bournemouth has forced Southampton a little deeper at the start of this game.

But Pied is holding up well so far as the full-back hacks clear in front of Charlie Daniels.

6min: Bournemouth are starting to come into the game now though, and it seems the Cherries are targeting the Southampton right as an avenue of attack - with Jeremy Pied making his Premier League start for the Saints this term at full-back.

3min: Good start from Southampton who are playing in the rare combination of white shirts and red shorts as a change strip.

Ryan Bertrand attacks down the left but his near post cut-back is crucially cleared by an alert Nathan Ake in font of Charlie Austin who was poised to score.
