Vela, a product of Bolton's academy, was linked with a move to Liverpool as a teenager and saw a move to Cardiff City fall through two years ago.

He has grown into one of Bolton's most consistent performers and will be missed by manager Phil Parkinson who has guided them out of the relegation places after a difficult start to the season.

Brighton are looking at strengthening their squad ahead of the second half of the Premier League season and want players who can bed in quickly.
