Manchester United's FA Cup third-round tie against Derby will take place on a Friday night, organisers have confirmed.

Jose Mourinho's side will welcome the Rams to Old Trafford for an 8pm kick off on January 5 in a bid to make sure the fixture doesn't clash with Manchester City's game the following day.

City have also been given a home draw in round three with Pep Guardiola's men taking on fellow Premier League side Burnley at 3pm on January 6.

Organisers have moved the fixture to make sure both Manchester giants don't play on the same day in order to prevent logistical challenges such as transport and policing issues.

United's last two meetings with Derby have both come in the FA Cup at Pride Park.

The Red Devils won 3-1 in the fourth round en route to winning the competition under Louis van Gaal in 2015/16 while Sir Alex Ferguson was in charge for the previous clash, a 4-1 triumph in the fifth round of 2008/09.

The match against Derby will see Manchester United's run of 58 televised FA Cup matches come to an end after it was snubbed by broadcasters BT Sport and BBC.

It will be the first time since January 2005 that United have not been shown on TV in the FA Cup — a goalless draw with Exeter City at Old Trafford.
