Brighton have told fans they cannot cover their faces with hats or scarves when they turn up for their FA Cup clash with Crystal Palace in January.

The Seagulls are stepping up their security for the match following trouble among supporters at their Premier League match last month.

And they have revealed that part of their plans is to have anyone coming through the Amex Stadium's turnstiles show their face.

A statement from the club read: 'Following direction from Brighton & Hove Albion's Safety Advisory Group, The FA has confirmed its support for a series of safety measures ahead of the FA Cup third round tie with Crystal Palace in January.


'A maximum of 2,000 tickets will be made available to Palace supporters for the match.

'No match tickets will be sold to home or away supporters after 12 noon on the day of the game.

'Supporters' faces must not be covered by hats, scarves, hoods or masks (i.e. they must be recognisable) when entering the turnstiles.

'Tickets in the South Stand will not be made available to Albion supporters for this match.'
