Bristol City 2-1 Manchester United, Carabao Cup Quarter-Final RESULT: Plus Chelsea 2-1 Bournemouth followed by EFL Cup semi-final draw

CHRIS WHEELER AT ASHTON GATE: Lee Johnson sprinted down the line, fists clenched in jubilation, before throwing himself into the arms of his coaching staff.

In the far corner of the pitch, his players engulfed matchwinner Korey Smith whose injury-time goal has sent Championship club Bristol City through to the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup at the expense of holders Manchester United.

What a moment. What a night. They will be talking about this game in these parts for many years to come.

Johnson tells Sky Sports: ‘It’s a brilliant draw. We've got to get over the overwhelming feeling of feeling proud. They were absolutely outstanding to beat Manchester United is incredible. Not just proud of the players’ personality but also their professionalism. I'm chuffed to bits... it was unbelievable feeling... turn of pace from me down the line that hadn't been seen in years... the scenes that it set off and it will live in the memory of this football club for years. 

‘It’s  a young group full of quality and they got their rewards… they will go down in Bristol City folklore. At times tonight we looked like the Premier League side. I can’t be more proud of the group.’

Manchester City, Arsenal, Chelsea and Bristol City will be in the hat.

He's told Sky Sports: 'My thoughts we were that they were a bit lucky but they fought a lot to be lucky... they won the game in our best moment when everyone was waiting for our goal.

'They fought like this was the game of their lives which it probably was. a beautiful fay for football. big day for them and their supporters. I congratulate them. The main thing of it is that they won. Lacked the intensity that they had. Not just physical but mentally. For us it was just one more day in the office and some of them probably didn't want to come into the office.'

That's right... without speaking to the media (which he doesn't have to do) Jose Mourinho has left Ashton Gate. That also means he hasn't had a drop of Lee Johnson's £450 wine. A shame.

Reports of scuffles between fans, however, are never welcome.

Korey Smith: 'I joined the club when we was in League One. We had three stands. We had a great season. This year we've geen brilliant. It's an amazing city. Nice to give the fans what they're receiving right now. It's absolutely unbelievable. I'm an arsenal fan so I'd like Arsenal... We've beat four Premier League teams to get here. An amazing day.' 

There you go. Bristol City are through to the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup. What a way to win a Cup tie. Cue a pitch invasion at Ashton Gate. What an early Christmas present for Lee Johnson and his Bristol City players.

Incredible. The ball was played back into the Manchester United penalty area to Korey Smith. He takes the ball down before volleying past Romero into the far corner. Bristol City boss Lee Johnson goes running down the touchline at Ashton Gate.

90min: Lukaku foul on Flint. Chance for Bristol City to launch the ball into the penalty area. Free-kick is just inside the Manchester United half. Pack passes forward but United clear without any problems. Mike Dean then dishes out two yellow cards. One for Matt Taylor for a foul on Lukaku before Pogba is booked for saying a little too much.

85min: Rashford probably deserved a free-kick there as he was blocked off by Pack. Seconds later Luke Shaw sprints down the left wing but his cross into the box is poor and Bristol City clear without any pressure.

82min: Nothing to separate the two sides here as we enter the final ten minutes of normal time. It's looking more likely that this one will go to extra-time but both sides are going for it. Lukaku the latest to test Steele, who makes another brilliant save to deny the striker down to his left. 

Chelsea make it through to the last four of the Carabao Cup after beating Bournemouth 2-1. Alvaro Morata scoring the winner a minute after Dan Gosling has got the Cherries level in the 90th minute.

78min: So, so close. Bristol City striker Jamie Paterson has tried to hassle the United backline all evening without much reward. He so nearly there got his side back in front. He cut inside from the left but his right-footed effort from 25 yards sails just over Romero's crossbar.

Eliasson replaces Brownhill who had taken a knock early in the second half.

74min: Great tackle on Rashford to deny a clear route to goal but is then booked for a foul on the near side touchline. He's been pumped up ever since scoring the opener. Lukaku then forces another good save by Steele after his header seemed destined to finish in the back of the net.

72min: Pogba cut in from the right before shooting with his left. Luke Steele in the Bristol City goal does excellent to get down to his left and prevent the ball returning to Pogba. Bristol City starting once again to moving forward with attacking purpose.

69min: Henrikh Mkhitaryan comes on to replace Zlatan Ibrahimovic for United while Matt Taylor takes the place of Hordur Magnusson for the hosts.

67min: Poor goalkeeping by Romero. Judgement all wrong there as a Bristol City throw-in was delivered into the United box. Romero missed the ball as he flapped at it but Flint couldn't direct his headed goalwards. 

65min: City manager Lee Johnson has instructed his players to drop a little deeper but still closing down quickly. Dropping deep has helped to eliminate the space in behind the defence and United's strikers, particularly Rashford, are having trouble breaking the line.

Adam Crafton, at Stamford Bridge, writes: Young Ethan Ampadu has grown in stature as this game has gone on. Responded so impressively to early booking. Confident on the ball,  tenacious without it. Let us hope Chelsea continue to believe in him. 

Kieran Gill, at Stamford Bridge, writes: Bournemouth started this second half by throwing the kitchen sink at Chelsea but the home side are coming into it more and more now.

Antonio Conte is pacing up and down his technical area like a man possessed. 

60min: A big blow that was for Bristol City and United have upped the pressure in the last five minutes. Lukaku has also just come on for Pogba.

Pogba goes over the challenge of Smith just outside of the Bristol City penalty area. Didn't look like a foul - more Pogba throwing himself at Smith. Zlatan Ibrahimovic takes... and scores. His effort goes underneath the Bristol City wall and fizzes into the bottom left corner beating Luke Steele.

56min: Bit more comfortable for Romero. Reid's lovely dummy allowed the ball to run across to Bryan on the far side. He took a touch but his right-footed effort lacked power and was easily gathered by Romero. 

53min: Well, well, well. Some way to grab the headlines if the scoreline stays like this. The Bristol City fans are chanting about Wembley and why not. They have looked comfortable on the ball from the opening minute. Mourinho does not look impressed.

A sensational strike. Bryan is played through on the left side of the United area. Marcos Rojo slides in but misses the Bristol City winger before Bryan lashes a left-footed shot beyond Romero and into the top left hand corner. What a way to take the lead.

50min: Good movement from the striker. He used his body to shield the ball from Lindelof and pushed the ball forward before shooting with his right foot but his effort finds the side-netting and isn't enough to trouble Romero.

48min: Martial is clipped by Brownhill. Rashford's effort gets a deflection by Smith and goalkeeper Steele does really well to get across to his right post and push the ball behind for a United corner which comes to nothing.

46min: Pogba turns Paterson well to draw the foul as the Bristol City forward is booked. Rashford's low drive from the resulting free-kick is blocked.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic starts the second period for United.

Attendance of 41,168 tonight for Chelsea v Bournemouth. Chelsea still 1-0 up. 

Jack Gaughan's half-time assessment from Ashton Gate: A bloody good Cup tie, this. Bristol City, for all their manager's forward-thinking, have looked a little bit like his dad's old side Cambridge United at times. And that has really ruffled United feathers. Zlatan Ibrahimovic simply does not look fully fit and Jose Mourinho is cutting a very frustrated figure indeed. 

45min: Bristol City's tactic of surrounding Romero when he has the ball in his hands is having the desired effect. Romero fumbled the ball seconds before Mike Dean blows for half-time. Thankfully for the goalkeeper none of Bristol City's players could react quick enough.

41min: Corey Smith did really well to control the ball in the United area following Reid's clever flick before advancing towards the six-yard box. Just as he was about to shoot with his left foot, Daley Blind was able to get back and make a fantastic last-ditch challenge to stop his side going behind. A let-off for United.

39min: That's the chant from the Bristol City fans. It stops briefly as United have a corner but starts up again as Zlatan Ibrahimovic smashes a volley over the crossbar of Luke Steele. An effort that tells you he hasn't played since last season.

35min: Reid keeps drifting out to the right to help put extra pressure on United left back Shaw. It is working. Shaw isn't the quickest defender and a couple of times now he's been caught out by Reid and Bryan. Bit of a concern for Mourinho's side.

Chelsea 1-0 Bournemouth. Willian's strike early in the game is the difference at the break.

31min: A fantastic spell of Bristol City pressure ends with Hordur Magnusson striking a left-footed strike from range that Romero saves only after scrambling over his line. Bristol City are playing with the swagger that you'd expect from Manchester United.

28min: Pack's shot is deflected by Martial. Small cry of handball but Mike Dean gives a corner. The ball comes in and is flicked on by Paterson but Romero claims. Flint then puts into the United net but the whistle had already been blown after Romero was obstructed when trying to play the ball out of his area.

25min: Mike Dean waves play on as Rashford goes down in the Bristol City penalty area. It appeared as though Hordur Magnusson tugged at his shirt after the striker had got the wrong side of him. You could argue the case either way but Mike Dean probably got that one right.

24min: Couple of the Bristol City players have started this game with so much intensity. Marlon Pack showed that in the opening stages when he blocked Paul Pogba. Aden Flint has just done similar to Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Meanwhile, Pogba shoots wide from distance.

20min: United very close to taking the lead at Ashton Gate. Marcus Rashford cuts inside from the left and tries a right-footed effort from 25 yards which beats goalkeeper Luke Steele but not the post.

19min: Bristol City's players swarm the six-yard box. Loose in the box but Reid can't get close enough to the ball to cause danger. Luke Shaw then gives away a foul on the edge of the United penalty area. 

Brownhill runs over the ball and Bryan blasts wide. A waste.

17min: An ambitious effort there from the United youngster. The ball bounced towards him over 30 yards out and he decides to volley an effort towards the Bristol City goal. Well wide. Nowhere near the goal.

15min: Both of Bristol City's front two are doing brilliantly when United's defenders have the ball. They aren't letting them settle. Reid tends to occupy the position ahead of Paterson and being fairly deep is allowing him to pick up loose balls between the Mourinho's side's defence and midfield. If the two wingers either start making themselves available, Lee Johnson's team may find a little joy.

12min: Martial plays in a superb ball to the far post where Ibrahimovic moves to but the striker can only direct his effort down into the ground and off the post. Difficult to get to but Ibrahimovic may have had more joy playing the ball across the box.

9min: Bristol City have done well during the opening stages of this game. A lot of one-touch passing that is starting to open up space in the Manchester United half. Brownhill, who is playing on the right side for the hosts, is causing a number of problems.

6min: Pogba manages to get above everyone else and head away for a corner. Ball comes back in again but Ibrahimovic is in a good position to clear.

5min: Pack this time is brought down by Pogba. Bristol City free-kick. Hordur Magnusson (Pogba's mate) lines the ball up 30 yards out. But it's Brownhill who takes it and Romero has to push the ball over the bar for a corner.

3min: Marlon Pack gives away a foul as Paul Pogba turned away from him. United will look to find Pogba at nearly every opportunity tonight. Pack can't afford to be left in his wake.

1min: Not much to report on the pitch as both sides try to get settled. The noise being created in the stands, however, is quite something. A superb atmosphere being created by both sets of supporters.

Bristol City get the action started.

They reckon it's the biggest attendance they have had in years. A packed house tonight. Time to find out if they can beat Manchester United.

Chelsea ahead at Stamford Bridge. Willian converts after fine work by Cesc Fabregas. The midfielder crosses the ball across the six-yard box and Willian pokes past Boruc.

Kieran Gill, at Stamford Bridge, writes: Less than two minutes in and a crunching late challenge by Ethan Ampadu on Jermain Defoe. Very late, very naughty, and he receives a yellow card for it. Defoe down receiving treatment. Looks like he will continue but he's limping a little. 0-0.

Kieran Gill, at Stamford Bridge, writes: All of the floodlights just went out inside Stamford Bridge... a few journalists inside the Press area get worried, really hoping it was not a power cut. The players are out and the lights are back on, thankfully.

Jose Mourinho says United have 'missed' Paul Pogba as the midfielder comes back into the starting line-up tonight.

Pogba was suspended for three games after stamping on Arsenal defender Hector Bellerin.

Asked how it felt to be able to include the Frenchman, Mourinho said: 'We've missed him.'

Kieran Gill, at Stamford Bridge, writes: At the risk of sounding extremely Northern, it isn't cold at the Bridge tonight. Nice evening in west London.

A lot of the build-up to this tie involved Andreas Christensen, amid similarities between him and John Terry. Well, Christensen isn't in the squad.

Ethan Ampadu is, though, and he starts. Looking forward to seeing the Wales international in the flesh after hearing a lot of good things about him.

The focus tonight will be on the 8pm kick-off at Ashton Gate as Bristol City host Manchester United.

There will, however, be live updates from Stamford Bridge where Chelsea take on Bournemouth at 7.45pm.

The draw for the semi-finals will follow after both games have finished.

SPENCER MORGAN: Bristol City defender Hordur Magnusson is looking forward to crossing paths with former team-mate Paul Pogba once more as his team host Manchester United in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night.

The pair became close friends, and Playstation rivals, when Pogba joined Juventus in 2012.

Magnusson, who became an interpreter for the Frenchman in his early days, never made it to the senior side to play alongside him but the duo did have plenty of action when it came to video games.

Jack Gaughan at United's team hotel: 'There have been loads of locals hanging around United’s team hotel this afternoon hopeful of catching a glimpse of Jose Mourinho’s side. And bizarrely they all looked a little shell shocked as United left for Ashton Gate. You could hear a pin drop. A bit of a strange few minutes.' 

MATT SMITH: Manchester United's preparations for their Carabao Cup quarter final against Bristol City have been disrupted after their private jet had to be diverted to Cardiff due to fog.

United made the unusual decision to travel to the game on the morning of the match, Wednesday, rather than make the 140-mile trip to the South West the night before.

This decision has backfired on them, after poor conditions over Bristol caused the private jet they were travelling in to have to land at Cardiff airport instead.

At least Bristol City will be up for this one tonight unlike West Ham were last night at the Emirates.

Bristol City are aiming to become the only Championship side in the last four of this season's Carabao Cup.

Lee Johnson's side are third in the Championship side and he believes his team can cause an upset at Ashton Gate.

Johnston's certainly done all he can to accommodate Jose Mourinho and his backroom staff.

The City boss has spent £450 on a bottle wine to share with the United boss after the game.

Last night saw Manchester City and Arsenal progress to the last four of the Carabao Cup.

Tonight it's the turn of Bristol City, Manchester United, Chelsea and Bournemouth.
