Matteo Darmian could be on his way out of Manchester United in the January transfer window, with Napoli lining up a move for the Italy defender.

The leaders of Serie A have made an inquiry about the availability of the 28-year-old and according to The Mirror, Roma and Juventus could also be interested in making a move.

Darmian has made 11 appearances for United this season and has been used sparingly by boss Jose Mourinho in the Premier League, featuring only four times this season.

The Italy international has fallen behind Ashley Young in the left-back pecking order while Mourinho also promised more game time for Luke Shaw earlier this month.

United have also been linked with bringing in another left-back in January with Danny Rose of Tottenham and Alex Sandro at Juventus on their radar.

Darmian, who has 36 Italy caps, was brought to Old Trafford in 2015 by Louis van Gaal in a £14.4m transfer from Torino.

He has made 79 appearances since then, the latest of which came on Wednesday night in United's shock 2-1 defeat by Bristol City in the Carabao Cup.

United are currently second in the Premier League with 41 points from 18 games, 11 behind fierce rivals and runaway leaders Manchester City.

They are next in action on Saturday, away to Leicester, as they look to hit back after their defence of the Carabao Cup was ended by second tier opponents.
