Paris Saint-Germain are demanding £40million for Arsenal target Julian Draxler.

The Gunners have been long-term admirers of the 24-year-old Germany playmaker, who has struggled for regular football since arriving in France last January.

According to The Sun, Arsene Wenger will step up his pursuit of Draxler in January but will have to cough up £40m to sign him.

Wenger sees Draxler as the ideal replacement for wantaway Alexis Sanchez, who is out of contract at the Emirates at the end of this season.

Having turned down £60million from Manchester City in the summer, the Gunners are not ruling out selling Sanchez when the transfer window reopens in January.

Arsenal know they are highly unlikely to receive offers near City's bid but are still ready to cash in to avoid losing Sanchez for nothing at the end of the season.

Sportsmail understands bids in excess of £35m would tempt Arsenal into selling — but Wenger also wants a replacement first.

Arsenal were previously interested in the former Wolfsburg star before his move to Ligue 1 but Wenger has kept a close eye on his development in the French capital.

If Draxler were to look for a new club, Wenger would also face competition from other Premier League sides with Liverpool long-term admirers of the midfielder.

Due to the emergence of PSG's attacking trio — Neymar, Edinson Cavani and Kylian Mbappe — this term, Draxler has been deployed in a more defensive role.

His defensive duties have somewhat restricted his goalscoring influence but he has still managed two goals in Ligue 1 so far.
