West Ham manager David Moyes believes his side are playing too often to be successful in the FA Cup
- West Ham host West Brom in the Premier League on Tuesday night
- The Hammers then travel to Wembley on Thursday night to take on Tottenham
- West Ham face Paul Hurst's Shrewsbury in the third round of the FA Cup
David Moyes feels the Premier League is preventing West Ham from fighting for silverware as they prepare to play three fixtures in six days, starting with Tuesday night's relegation showdown against West Brom at the London Stadium.
The Hammers are third from bottom and face the team directly below them before a trip to Tottenham on Thursday — and then a televised FA Cup third round tie at Shrewsbury on Sunday.
Though survival is the priority, Moyes would '100 per cent' have liked to add a trophy, but says his hands are tied by the schedule.
West Ham manager David Moyes thinks his side are playing too much to win the FA Cup
'It is going to have a big damage on the FA Cup for us,' Moyes said. 'To have two games in three days and then have to play another three days later in the FA Cup —that is where it's taking its toll.
'The Premier League is eating into dates where the Cup games might be getting used.'
Their Thursday game against Tottenham at Wembley was originally scheduled for the weekend just gone but club insiders said it was moved because of issues to do with the London Underground.
West Ham's players are back in action against West Brom on Tuesday in the Premier League
'Do I want to win the FA Cup? One hundred per cent.
'If I could win the cup I would definitely try to win the cup, but I couldn't do it if I thought it would affect the Premier League.'
The festive fixture congestion has also angered Alan Pardew, whose West Brom side have only had two days' rest ahead of Tuesday's match.
The Hammers also play Tottenham as well as Shrewsbury in the FA Cup this weekend
'We have got two days rest in Premier League professional football, putting players at risk, in my opinion, of injury. It's not right, that.'
'Terrible,' Pardew continued. 'We all know there's pressure on TV companies for ratings and everything else — I understand that. But the league's got to be stronger and say two days is not right.'
