West Brom are in talks to sign Basle right back Michael Lang.

The 28-year-old has 22 caps for Switzerland and is keen on a move to the Premier league after Albion sent scouts to watch him in action during Basle's winter training camp in Malaga.

Albion are discussing a fee with Basle and are prepared to offer Lang a three-and-a-half year contract.

Lang, who can also play at centre back, scored the winning goal for Basle in their 1-0 Champions League victory over Manchester United in November.

He has been a stalwart in their defence this season, playing every match in the Swiss Super League and could be a ready-made replacement should Jonny Evans leave the club this month.

Manchester City and Arsenal have both expressed interest this window in the West Brom captain.

Boss Alan Pardew admitted he is also keen to bolster his attacking options and is weighing up a swoop for Watford striker Troy Deeney.

But Pardew has underlined that the club do not have the scope to bring in a player of Deeney's stature this month unless they receive a sizeable fee for Evans.

'We have scenarios that are going to time out if we don't get a bid for Jonny that's acceptable for Jonny and for us,' Pardew said.

'Jonny hasn't seen me this week so I'm in the dark a little bit. I'm not bothered about seeing him, we haven't had a bid. So in terms of our plans to use that money, if it was to come in the door, that time is ticking away, and that concerns me a little bit more.'
