Swansea vs Liverpool: Swans boss Carlos Carvalhal believes Reds have weaknesses while Jurgen Klopp backs Sadio Mane to shine

  • Liverpool will travel to Swansea for the Premier League match on Monday night
  • The Swans will look for a surprise win to help climb out of relegation danger
  • Liverpool will be looking to follow up victory over Manchester City with another

Swansea will host Liverpool on Monday night with both sides looking to continue their good form.

The Reds will be looking to build on their impressive win over Manchester City last time out while Swansea will be keen to better their previous 5-0 result against the Anfield club.

Here, Carlos Carvalhal and Jurgen Klopp preview the action to come at the Liberty Stadium.

Carlos Carvalhal in his own words

You watched the 5-0 loss to Liverpool. Is that a worry?

We can’t repeat those mistakes because the first two goals killed the game and after it was difficult to fight. It was a lesson and there are things we must learn to make sure we are not in trouble again.

How have they changed after losing Coutinho?

Different players create a different dynamic, but they still play one game. Coutinho has gone, but they have players who give different things to the team.

We don’t know if it will make them better or worse, but they still have fantastic players.

They have someone like Sadio Mane who can come in and I don’t think the team lose too many qualities.

Did Liverpool’s win over Manchester City scare you?

They scored four, but let in three. They have strong points, but a team who let in three have weak points. I look at the game like that. The best teams in the world have very few weak points, but they do have them.

Is this David against Goliath?

I prefer to be Goliath, but during my career I’ve been in David’s position mostly! In the past I’ve often caused some surprises, but in that moment the Goliath was a little ill!

Jurgen Klopp in his own words

Emre Can was key against City. Will he get a new deal?

He is here at the moment and that is the most important thing. He was outstanding against Manchester City. We will see what happens.

Would it be a big shock if he left for free?

There are other places with football clubs. We cannot ignore that. Let me say it like this. We have to make it difficult for them to leave here. In this era, maybe they are not all one-team players.

Has Sadio Mane got his confidence back?

We had talks and I like to be honest. I don’t want to say Sadio was brilliant when he wasn’t. Everyone could see that he struggled a bit. You cannot play football without mistakes. He is in a good moment and I am really happy about that because it helps.

He seems revitalised since the turn of the year?

At Burnley he scored a fantastic goal. But it was not a world-class game for Sadio. Since then he is now really back. He works hard, he protects the ball, no risky dribbling and he is a world-class player.
