Slimani signed for the Foxes for a club-record fee of £28m from Sporting Lisbon.

The forward arrived after Leicester had won the Premier League but Slimani struggled to adapt to life at the King Power.

The 29-year-old has only started one league game for Leicester since September and there are no signs his fortunes will change under Claude Puel.

Newcastle have already secured Kenedy on loan from Chelsea and Rafa Benitez is keen to bolster his attacking resources.

The north-east club currently lie 15th in the table, only one point outside the relegation zone.
