PRIDE: It's not all about trophies for Wenger [GETTY]

Wenger takes charge of his 1000th match as Arsenal manager against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge tomorrow lunchtime with his side in the hunt for this season's Premier League and FA Cup.

During his 18-year reign, Wenger has led Arsenal to three league titles, four FA Cups and played a pivotal role in the club's move to the Emirates Stadium in 2006.

However since the 2005 FA Cup triumph, Arsenal have failed to secure any silverware with Wenger coming under huge scrutiny from sections of the club's supporters.

But the Frenchman insisted he could look back on the trophy less period and declare that as his best achievement in charge of Arsenal.

"I was part of the initial process to build the stadium and push the club to do it," Wenger said.

"So I felt that part of my responsibility is to push the club through that difficult period as much as I could.

"I knew from the start that financial viability was linked with us being in the Champions League.

"So you can imagine how much I did sweat for years in the last three months of the season.

"It was maybe not the most prolific period on the trophy side. But maybe one day I will look back on that and that will be the period I will be most proud of."
