Gunners chief Arsene Wenger is understood to be scouring the market for a world-class centre-forward following his failure to land Real Madrid hitman Karim Benzema.

Recently, it has been suggested the Frenchman has turned his attentions to signing Cavani - who's future at the Parc des Princes is currently up in the air.

And according to sources in Spain, the Professor will make a late move for the 28-year-old.

With the transfer window closing shortly, Wenger could face a difficult task to wrap a deal before Tuesday's 6pm deadline.

However, the former Monaco chief has revealed the club are working around the clock to secure new signings.

WANTED: According to reports, Arsene Wenger will make a late move for Cavani

"I am available 24 hours per day so I am involved in the decision,” Wenger said.

“I cannot say I am very confident [about bringing someone in] because we are not close to signing anybody at the moment but the transfer market is always moving in the last four or five days.

“We work very hard and I have a team around me that works day and night to find good solutions but at the moment we are not close to signing anybody.

“You have specific targets but as well sometimes you get an idea from somebody where you didn’t know that a player that you like was available.

“If you get an opportunity like that you do it.”
