The Gunners are fighting for their lives in Europe after just two games - and the manager admits they have only themselves to blame.

Back-to-back defeats to Dinamo Zagreb and Olympiakos mean they simply cannot afford to lose at home to group leaders Bayern Munich tonight.

“I believe we have some ground to make up in Europe as we have not been at our requested level in our first two games,” said Wenger.

“Our focus has been much stronger in the Premier League than it has been in Europe and we know in this game the focus needs to be exactly the same as in the Premier League.

“We maybe could be a little suspected of not taking the opponent seriously enough in the first two games so this time this is not the threat.”

Arsenal’s woeful European form has led to accusations that Wenger’s side cannot lift themselves against supposedly inferior teams.

GAFFER: Arsene Wenger
SHOCKER: Olympiakos defeated Arsenal in September

But Wenger said: “We are always accused of something. The thing is today you are always told what you have not done. Sometimes people forget what you have done.

“In 2015 we are the team that has taken more points than everybody else. And we are still accused of being inconsistent.

“But in Europe it’s true we have been poor in our first two games. That is what we want to correct.

“If you look at our record in the Champions League, over 160 games nobody has a better percentage of winning than us. Or not many.

“Olympiakos can have an easy game on Friday night and come here on Tuesday completely focused.

“Bayern won 3-0 at Olympiakos but it was a very tight game and Olympiakos could have equalised. Bayern scored two in the last five minutes. It’s like that in Europe.”

CONTROVERSIAL: Arijan Ademi failed a drugs test

Wenger’s frustrations have been reinforced by the fact Zagreb midfielder Arijan Ademi failed a drugs test after the Gunners’ trip to Croatia.

Uefa rules means the result still stands though.

Wenger said: “When you don’t play at your best and your opponent is doped, it is difficult.

“The rules are the rules and I cannot change that. I don’t think the result is really under any threat.

“I was surprised because it was Ademi the player who didn’t play before he played against us.”
