TABLE TOPPERS: Arsene Wenger has led his side to the summit of the Premier League

Goals from Olivier Giroud and Laurent Koscielny within two minutes of each other set the Gunners on their way to a 2-1 win at the Emirates Stadium, Ross Barkley replying for the visitors who had Gareth Barry sent off late on.

Wenger has always maintained that he had a side capable of challenging for the title despite coming in for criticism at only signing Petr Cech over the summer.

The goalkeeper secured the win for his new side by saving well from Gerard Deulofeu late on while Romelu Lukaku hit the crossbar with a header.Arsenal's title chances were written off by some after a 2-0 opening day defeat to West Ham.

And Wenger insists he and his players will are determined to keep ahead of the pack now they have reached the summit, although they could be overtaken tomorrow following the Manchester derby.

"We'll keep our humility and our desire to grow," Wenger said.

"We lost our first game of the season at the Emirates and no one would say we would be top of the table after that."
