Arsenal are set to enter the race for Everton defender John Stones, according to the Sunday Mirror.

Chelsea are keen on the 21-year-old and failed with three big bids in the summer.

But Arsene Wenger has been alerted by Stones' form and is prepared to spend in excess of £30m.

Everton boss Roberto Martinez insists any bids for Stones will be rejected in January.

COSTLY AFTERNOON: Arsene Wenger admits Alexis Sanchez's injury is a "big blow"

Gunners boss Wenger has revealed why he didn't send Joel Campbell out on loan in the summer, the Sunday Telegraph report.

The Costa Rica international has been loaned out four times during his Arsenal career but has been in the first team of late.

"This season I didn’t want to [loan] him out because he has a genuine team attitude and he’s a fighter," Wenger said.

"What you want from him is to bring more offensively when he played, and recently he has shown, when he is confident, he can produce the offensive quality."

Alexis Sanchez and Laurent Koscielny have added to Arsenal's growing injury problems.

Sanchez limped off in the second-half against Norwich with a suspected hamstring injury while Koscielny picked up a muscle problem after nine minutes.

After the Canaries draw, Wenger said: "We lost Alexis Sanchez, I do not know how long he will be out but it is a big blow.

"[Santi] Cazorla finished on one leg, Koscielny we will have to assess tomorrow."
