HAGGLING: Roma and Arsenal haven't managed to hammer out a deal yet

It's believed the Gunners are looking to keep the Polish keeper out on loan this season as Petr Cech remains first choice between the sticks for Arsene Wenger's side.

But now, Sky Sports Italy journalist Gianluca Di Marzio has claimed Roma are considering pursuing Spanish keeper Diego Lopez instead of the former Arsenal No.1.

Lopez is leaving current club AC Milan this summer and could be a solution to the Italian's side vacancy.

Although, according to the Evening Standard, Chelsea have also been linked with the 34-year-old shot stopper and could make a move for him should current backup Asmir Begovic fancy a switch to Everton.

Szczesny was cast aside by Arsenal after a turbulent 2014/15 season where he was fined for smoking in the changing rooms after a mistake-ridden performance against Southampton.

The 26-year-old did nothing to cool relations between himself and the London club earlier this year when he claimed he'd learnt more in four months at Roma than he had in 10 years at Arsenal.

Szczesny was set to be Poland's No.1 for Euro 2016 but sustained an injury in their first game against Northern Ireland and was ruled out the rest of the tournament.
