The France international centreback was a doubt for Arsenal’s opening Champions League Group A game after being kicked in the head during the 2-1 defeat of Southampton on Saturday.

But he came through training on Monday and flew with the team to Paris.

“He's all right,” said Wenger. “He had a big knock on his face but recovered quite well. I was concerned after the game that he wouldn't be available, but he's all right.”

Koscielny scored a spectacular overhead goal for the Gunners against Saints and Wenger reckons the 31-year-old is now one of the best defenders in the world.

“No one is indispensable, but he has taken on a new status with us,” said Wenger.

“He has experience, self-confidence. He's always had talent, and that hasn't always been recognised in France because he left Lorient, not a big club.

“So he didn't have the reputation he deserved. But he's made his name in English football. I think he's one of the best in the world. I hope he proves that to you tomorrow.”

But when it came to bigging up his entire time, Wenger admitted the time for talking was over.

After six years of crashing out at the first knockout stage, he said it was time for them to show actions spoke louder than words.

“Better than all my speeches is the way we play, the dynamic we have and the intensity we put into the game,” he said.

“We play in a championship where you look at the results over the weekend and it's very intense.

“We are used to playing with the intensity you need in the Champions League. That's what we want to do. Playing well is better than talking, and making the results which we want to show tomorrow.”
