Jose Mourinho has revealed Henrikh Mkhitaryan is not in the best condition

The Manchester United winger returned to the starting XI for the Europa League draw at Rostov following a hamstring injury.

He scored the opening goal before being taken off in a pre-scheduled substitution on the hour mark.

Mourinho was relieved to see Mkhitaryan make it through the game without suffering a recurrence of his injury.

And with three big games in the space of the next 10 days, his return is important for United.

"We know he cannot play 90 minutes," Mourinho said.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan opened the scoring for Manchester United against Rostov

"We knew he would only play 60 minutes - it doesn't matter [what] the result [was], we made that decision together as he is not in the best condition.

"We gave him freedom to play in attacking positions with Zlatan, to try to find spaces to score.

"He did well and managed to finish the game without injury, which is important for us."
