Pogba, 24, was allowed to leave Old Trafford for Juventus for just £1.5m in 2012.

He went on to shine for the Italian giants and United decided to fork out a world-record £89m fee to re-sign him last summer.

Ferguson, who was in charge of the Red Devils when Pogba originally left, insists the decision was out of his control.

He claims the France international was influenced by his agent Raiola, who he labelled a “s***bag” when delivering a speech to Sale Sharks rugby club.

“Why was no one able to acknowledge the undeniable talent that is Paul Pogba?” Sale prop Brian Mujati asked the Scot.

To which Ferguson replied: “Paul Pogba? He had a bad agent. A s***bag.

“Paul Pogba was well known to us. We knew he was a good player.

“He's still a good player. We offered him the best contract..."

Pogba initially struggled to justify his mammoth price tag back at Old Trafford.

But the midfielder finished the season strongly and helped Jose Mourinho’s side claim Europa League glory with a 2-0 win over Ajax in May.

That result means United are currently preparing for a return to the Champions League.
