Manchester United are in talks over James Rodriguez

Manchester United are close to signing Romelu Lukaku from Everton for £75m, but the Red Devils boss is still not satisfied.

He is eyeing the Real Madrid playmaker to replace Wayne Rooney who is nearing a return to Goodison Park.

United were in talks with Real over Alvaro Morata but pulled out of that move and put all of their efforts into chasing Lukaku.

And ending their interest in Morata is not expected to damage their chances of landing Rodriguez.

That's according to The Independent who say the Colombian has emerged as a key target for United.

Real are keen to do business as they look for a way to finance a move for Monaco's Kylian Mbappe.

Rodriguez would fit chief executive Ed Woodward's supposed plan to land a star every summer.

The South American has big marketing potential and would bring in a wedge of cash.

But he won't come cheap and Madrid are thought to be standing firm over their €70m [£62m] valuation.

United have reportedly offered around £40m for the Colombian player so both parties are some way off.

However, the Red Devils are keen to do a deal and they are in open discussions with Real about his signature.
