That is according to Italian paper La Gazzetta dello Sport, who report that the Serie A giants are refusing to budge from their £49m (€55m) asking price for the Croatia international winger.

The only other deal that could tempt San Siro chiefs into selling Perisic is if Martial heads in the opposite direction on a season-long loan.

Mourinho is desperate to add Perisic, 28, to his squad this summer.

Starsport understand United began transfer talks with Inter at the end of last season.

Perisic has his heart set on a move to Old Trafford.

And Starsport reported in June that he is sulking in a bid to push the move through.

Spalletti claimed last week that negotiations between the two clubs have ceased.

He said: "There was a contact a few weeks ago, then the negotiation stopped, so for me it is closed.

"The more days that pass, the more difficult it becomes for us to find a replacement of his calibre.

"I'll strongly oppose his sale."

But La Gazzetta dello Sport claim that talks between the two clubs continue.

Spalletti, who was appointed earlier this summer, sees him as a crucial part of his plans but thinks Mourinho will relent to Inter’s request for Martial in part-exchange.

Martial fell out of favour last term and managed just eight goals in all competitions.
