Inter Milan boss Luciano Spalletti believes Jose Mourinho might sacrifice Anthony Martial as he continues to try and sign Ivan Perisic.

Italian paper La Gazzetta dello Sport claim the Serie A giants are refusing to budge from their £49m (€55m) valuation for the Croatia international.

The only other deal that could tempt Inter into selling Perisic is if Martial heads in the opposite direction on a season-long loan.

Spalletti, who was appointed earlier this summer, sees Perisic as a crucial member of his squad but thinks Mourinho will eventually succumb to Inter’s request for Martial.

The France international fell out of favour last term and managed just eight goals in all competitions.

United tried hard to sign Tottenham’s Eric Dier instead of Nemanja Matic from Chelsea, according to transfer expert Gabriele Marcotti.

He said on ESPN FC: “He has a point but again, look people say all sorts of things but I think the other target or alternative in that role for Manchester United was Eric Dier.

“Obviously negotiating with Tottenham was tough. Tottenham did not want to let him go.

“Obviously everybody has a price.

“I think they took a long, hard run at Dier but then they saw they weren’t getting anywhere with Spurs and they opted for Nemanja Matic at what they think is at a reasonable price.”

Arsenal legend Perry Groves thinks Romelu Lukaku will prove to be a better signing than Alvaro Morata or Alexandre Lacazette.

He told bwin: “I think those names mentioned will score 20+ goals this season but if I had to pick, I think United got the best deal.

“Lukaku is only 24, he gets better with every season he plays and has proven Premier League experience compared to the other two.

“He's playing with better players and will have more goalscoring opportunities.

“The knock against him has been that he can't do it in the big games but to be honest, with no disrespect to Everton, in the big games they had less of the ball and less opportunities for Lukaku.

“Now he's playing for a big club, he'll score in more big games because United will win more big games.

“If United win the league, £75m is nothing.”
