At least that’s the verdict of The Independent’s Miguel Delaney, despite murmurs of the Red Devils potentially being invited to make a move for the Welshman.

Bale, 28, has spent the past four years at the Bernabeu since leaving the Premier League behind in a then-world-record £85m switch from Tottenham.

During that time he’s consistently been linked with a return to England, with United deemed his most likely destination if he quits Real.

Speculation has rumbled on this summer that Bale could be sacrificed to raise funds for a £100m-plus raid on Monaco to sign Kylian Mbappe.

And that was renewed yesterday with Zinedine Zidane apparently targeting the teen sensation to freshen up his all-star frontline.

Despite admitting it's unlikely, Jose Mourinho has revealed he would love to snare a player of Bale’s quality.

Delaney seems to share the United gaffer’s stance that there’s not much chance of a deal happening at this stage though.

On Twitter, a fan asked him: "Heard anything about Bale today? Always been a dream signing of mine so excited but sceptical."

And Delaney replied: "It is still lingering, and ther's talk United have been given new encouragement but I can't see it now [sic]."

Aside from Bale, United are known to have their eye on Inter Milan ace Ivan Perisic as they look to sign a winger.
