The Belgian striker moved to Old Trafford in a £75m deal earlier this summer, snubbing interest from his former club Chelsea in the process.

And Pogba said he had to work hard to convince Lukaku should join him at United.

“I had been preparing for this. It was long work - I took him to dinner and I talked to him,” he said on Copa 90's YouTube channel during the club's pre-season tour of America.

“I had to work for it but the finale is that he's here, he's with us and he's banging in goals.

“He's a player who knows the Premier League and can help us a lot. When you're with those people that you're close to, you know you want to die for them too.

“It's always good to be close with your team-mates on and outside of the pitch.”

United were in the market for a striker following the release of Zlatan Ibrahimovic after he suffered a long-term knee injury.

And Jose Mourinho opted to bring Lukaku to the club ahead of Real Madrid forward Alvaro Morata despite having interest in both.

Chelsea missed out on Lukaku and signed the Spaniard instead.

United have also signed Victor Lindelof and Nemanja Matic this summer as they strengthen in preparation for a return to the Champions League.

Gareth Bale and Ivan Perisic have been linked with moves to Old Trafford this summer as well.
