That’s according to ex-Premier League ace Danny Mills, who reckons the Welsh wonder would be a ‘magnificent signing’ for the Red Devils.

United boss Jose Mourinho hit the headlines yesterday after claiming he would ‘fight to sign’ Bale should he become available this summer.

Old Trafford chiefs have been keen on the Real Madrid superstar for several seasons and a stunning transfer could yet be on the cards before deadline day.

Mills believes Bale would be the perfect addition to Mourinho’s ranks and his arrival would boost new £75m man Lukaku.

He told Sky Sports: “When you look at Manchester United now, Mourinho, in his second season, has sorted out the spin of the team.

“He’s got Lukaku, his target man, the focus point, his new Didier Drogba.

“To have [Bale’s] pace, power and goalscoring ability alongside Lukaku on either wing, I think it would be a magnificent signing.”

Mourinho is known to want a new winger as his fourth - and likely final - summer swoop.

United have been trying to sign Inter Milan’s Ivan Perisic for weeks but that move has proving to be highly problematic.

With Perisic seemingly staying put in Italy, United are busy looking at other targets.

Should Real splash the cash on Monaco sensation Kylian Mbappe in the coming weeks, Bale will likely be put up for sale and that will bring United into play.

And as Mourinho said yesterday: “If he’s not in the club’s plans and what you are telling me is true [about Mbappe] and that the arrival of another player would mean Gareth would be on his way out of Real Madrid then I would try to be waiting for him on the other side and be fighting with the other coaches who would like to have him on their team.”
