Cristiano Ronaldo could affect Gareth Bale's decision to join Manchester United, Liverpool hero Steven Gerrard claims.

Real Madrid star Bale, 28, has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford in recent months, with Jose Mourinho a huge admirer of the Wales international.

Mourinho yesterday revealed he would love to sign Bale if he became available.

And Gerrard reckons Ronaldo could have a say in Bale leaving Real, especially with the Portugal international's solid relationship with Karim Benzema.

"I think also as well does Ronaldo have a say in that? (Bale's future)," Gerrard said on BT Sport.

"Because the rumour is that he loves playing with Benzema, you wonder whether that had an impact on the new deal.

"Is Gareth going to be that fall guy? Because he will raise the big funds for Mbappe."

United could land Sergi Roberto this summer, the bookies say.

The Barcelona star impressed for the Spanish giants last season.

Roberto started 39 games in all competitions last campaign, netting one goal and chipping in with six assists.

Reports this week claimed United had made a £36m (€40m) bid for the Spain international, while Chelsea were also in the race for the 25-year-old.

And Ladbrokes have slashed their odds in half of Roberto making the switch to Old Trafford this summer.

Callum Bunce of Ladbrokes said: "Roberto's versatile playing in both defence and midfield, and the odds suggest he could be the creative spark that was missed in Jose's first season.

"United fans would love to see Bale head to Old Trafford this summer, and it would be the icing on the cake if they secured the services of both the Welshman and Spaniard."

Nemanja Matic will turn out to be a good signing for United, according to Paul Scholes.

The midfielder joined the Red Devils in a £40m deal from Chelsea and United hero Scholes is tipping the Serbian to shine under Mourinho.

Scholes said on BT Sport: "Big signings I think. I really like the Matic signing. That was the one that surprised me a little bit. It made you wonder why did Chelsea sell him?

"He brings aggression to United’s midfield which is something I think they have been lacking.

"I think he’s very similar in a way to Michael Carrick in a controlling midfielder, but what he brings what Michael doesn’t bring is a little bit of aggression which as I say he gets to the ball, he tackles, he allows other people to play.

"I think you saw that with Chelsea last year when Kante were magnificent together last year and that allowed Hazard and Fabregas and whoever else was playing that bit of freedom."
